Six steps to the right ventilation system

  1. barn climate analysis

The stable climate is analyzed on the basis of various on-site climate measurements and the conduct of an interview with those responsible for the stable

  2. Animal welfare analysis

The measurement of various parameters of your animal husbandry in the barn and the analysis of animal welfare-specific operating parameters provide a picture of the current animal welfare on your farm

  3. Visit protocol and professional analysis

The recorded data from points 1 & 2 are logged and clearly presented for you. You will also receive a professional assessment of the current climatic situation in your stables.

  4. Ventilation system for your barn

Various ventilation systems suitable for your barn are designed, technically described and individual 3D plans are created to illustrate the systems in your animal barns

  5. Ventilation and economic efficency parameters

The planned systems are compared objectively and independently in various categories (e.g. mode of operation, energy efficiency, acquisition costs, volume, etc.)

  6. Choosing the right ventilation system

You make the right decision in favor of a ventilation system which, adapted to your needs, will ensure lasting satisfaction and operational success

What is ventilation design?

Every barn has different requirements, every farm has dif- ferent  requirements.  In  order  to  create  a  perfect  barn  cli- mate  and  thus  optimum  conditions  for  maximum  animal  welfare and best performance, the ventilation system must  be precisely adapted to your barn. We ask the right questions, measure the relevant barn climate parameters, gather  your  personal  requirements  and  plan  tailor-made  ventila- tion solutions for you. You will receive an optimum basis for  decision-making - objective and individual.

barn without ventilation design

Ceiling fans were hung in this barn, although the barn geom- etry is not suitable for them. The result: the stalls were mostly  empty even at moderately warm temperatures.

barn with ventilation design

With the vet.smart.ventilation design, the optimum cooling  system for this type of barn was found. The result: the stalls  are perfectly filled even at high temperatures.

The comparison makes things sure for you

On the basis of objectively collected data on your company, your animal husbandry and your animal barns, we design different variants of ventilation systems.  You will receive 3D plans of your barns with the respective system components, a technical description of these and a clear comparison of the systems in terms of effect, appearance, costs and efficiency. This offers you the best possible basis for a success-oriented decision.

Would you like to check your barn climate? We carry out “germ count measurements” – uncomplicated and inexpensive.

Many farmers are faced with the question of whether to invest in a ventilation system: “Is the climate in my barn really the cause of the health problems in my animals?” Measuring the germ content of the air in the animal area can help with the decision-making process. By comparing the germ content with veterinary medical experience, it can be determined how contaminated the air is and whether animal health can be improved by supplying fresh air in a targeted way.

FAQ

How expensive is the system?

The main part of the costs includes the calculation of the ventilation systems, which is carried out using a complex 3D simulation of the air currents in the stable. This high-precision calculation enables us to adapt our systems completely individually to the respective barn and the respective needs of the animals.

How much does the tube cost per m2?

Since each system is individually adapted to the respective barn and a large part of the costs includes the calculation effort, there are no fixed prices for our tubes. We would be happy to create an individual offer for you. Just get in touch with us.

What delivery time should be expected?

After clarification of the exact scope of services, a delivery time of four weeks can be expected. We strive to process as quickly as possible.

Doesn't cold air come in through the exhaust vent?

This must be checked in each individual case. Due to high wind pressure, cold air can flow in uncontrolled in larger unprotected exhaust air openings, despite the counter-pressure of the hose ventilation system. In these special cases, it is necessary to insure the exhaust air surfaces (e.g. using wind protection nets). Our technicians will be happy to advise you.

Do the other fans in the barn have to be switched off?

Basically not, because the air flow from other fans can be included in our calculation. If the fans already in the barn are no longer needed due to your new tube system, we recommend switching them off, as otherwise unnecessary energy costs will arise. In special cases, existing fans can also be converted into exhaust air fans.

Who says that the simulations really correspond to reality and are error-free?

Precisely this aspect was extensively and comprehensively tested over a period of more than a year. We now have numerous proofs of the agreement of our simulations with the air flows observed in practice. Please contact us for the transmission of a corresponding technical proof.

How long is the warranty on the tube and fan?

A general manufacturer's guarantee of 10 years applies to the fabric of our tubes. Due to the use in a risk area (= barn), we cannot pass this on to you in full, since the origin of any cracks is usually mechanical damage caused by people, animals or machines. In individual cases, however, we always strive to offer you free repair or inexpensive replacement options. The usual manufacturer's warranty of 1 or 2 years (depending on the manufacturer) applies to all technical components (fans, control units, etc.).

What is the service life of the tubes?

In concrete terms, we can state that since we began working with the Tubes system in early 2013, not a single tube has had to be replaced due to a material weakness. According to the manufacturer, the service life of the fabric is 10 years with moderate UV exposure. We assume that this service life can also be achieved in the form of the hose and when used in the stable.

What happens if the tube doesn't work properly?

With every delivery you will receive a supplementary sheet with guidelines for the successful use of the tube system as well as an individual data sheet and installation instructions. Please check that all information contained in these documents has been followed. If the problem persists, please get in touch with your vet.smart.tubes representative. We find a solution for every problem.

What happens if the wind blows even slightly on my exhaust air surfaces (open curtains)?

Slight wind pressure (air speeds < 1 m/s) is harmless and can be equalized by the tube system. If the wind pressure is higher, the exhaust air surfaces must be insured (e.g. using wind protection nets).

Are there problems with condensation?

Unlike other suppliers, our tubes are made of airtight material. However, in order to prevent condensation, we use micro-perforation if necessary, i.e. many additional small exit holes that are included in the calculation. In individual cases it can happen that a small amount of condensation forms around the tube, but this is harmless for the animals.

Where exactly is the fan located?

The fan normally sits at the beginning of a ventilation or cooling tube. If the fresh air intake is possible directly in the outer wall without an additional air supply duct, the fan is also located directly in the outer wall. In most cases this arrangement is feasible. If an additional air supply duct is required (e.g. for air intake via a false ceiling), the fan is located at the end of this duct and thus in turn at the beginning of a ventilation or cooling hose. In special cases, other fan arrangements are also possible.

How loud are the fans?

We attach great importance to constantly using the latest fan technology. For this reason, we always use fans with comparatively low noise levels. If you have special requirements regarding the volume of the fans, we have the option of designing an "extra-quiet system" for you. Our technicians will be happy to provide you with precise technical information.

Why can't I drive around the corner with the tube?

vet.smart.tubes stands for the highest precision. With a tube that goes around the corner, the precision we want is not achieved due to the turbulence that arises. That's why we prefer to work with several tubes or with air supply channels if necessary. If a solution without a bend is not possible in your specific case, we of course also offer tubes with bends and curves, whereby we only plan systems whose effectiveness we are 100% convinced of.

My barn is very low. What is the minimum mounting height?

This depends on the size of the animals to be ventilated/cooled. As long as your animals cannot come into direct contact with the tube system (e.g. bite into it), it can be installed without hesitation. If direct contact cannot be avoided due to the size of the animals, the system can also be insured against damage by taking simple measures (e.g. protective grid).

Is it really necessary to measure and calculate so precisely?

Absolutely. Even a small error in the measurement or calculation can lead to a significant impairment of the correct functioning of the system and, in the worst case, to negative effects on animal health.

How is the tube cleaned? Do I have to dismantle it every time?

We recommend cleaning the tube at least once a year. This can easily be done with a high-pressure cleaner. In this way, the tube does not have to be dismantled. Alternatively, you can also dismantle your tube and clean it in a tub.
